It took Lions Head just one release to score his first hit: Ignacio „Iggy“ Uriarte’s debut single “Begging” was one of the big surprises of summer 2015 when the track garnered millions of streams and clicks and even cracked the Top 60 of the German Airplay Charts. The success landed him tour support slots with German big names li ke JORIS, Milky Chance, Bosse and Rea Garvey plus several festival bookings, playing in front of thousands of people.
His first major label release, the single “When I Wake Up” went straight into the iTunes top 40 and the top 20 of the German Airplay Charts. It made Focus Online’s top 10 of contenders for the summer hit of 2016 and nearly every radio station in Germany and Austria put the song on a heavy rotation playlist. Chart entries in Germany as well as Austria, Hungary, Portugal, Spain and Swede n indicate the band’s great potential. Their album “LNZHD” will be released on the 4 th of November 2016.
LIONS HEAD’s songs are like “snapshots of life”, wherein Iggy disassembles the great themes of life into small anecdotes. Following his motto thus yo u only get to meet your destiny when you strike your own personal path, he left his home town New York. After a couple of individual band projects including a trip to Los Angeles and stops in London, Madrid, Rome, Vienna, Hamburg and Berlin, he finally set tled in Munich where LIONS HEAD was born.
Musically, Iggy was an early starter: his parents introduced him to The Beatles, The Beach Boys and The Gypsy Kings at a young age, and he began to play the piano when he was only ten years old. Later he taught h imself to play guitar, bass and drums. In the children’s choir of the Metropolitan Opera Iggy not only had the opportunity to expand his talent but was also introduced to discipline and professionalism. „I learned a lot about the basics of creating music, which not only had a strong influence on my songwriting. From the start I regarded music and performance as a unit – and that concept has shaped my understanding of pop music sustainably”.
The twelve songs on „LNZHD“ are like an aural road trip, a sort of dancing “Easy Rider” ride through the vastness of desire, freedom, love, sex , parties and a never – ending summer, because “nothing really matters until the morning after”. Imagine yourself with no car roof, your hair flowing in the airstream while roar ing in a stolen convertible through budding summer nights. Each song pictures a new image, evokes a new scene in this audible road movie.
LIONS HEAD sound is “bonfire disco”, gently plucked guitar licks combined with casually grooving dance beats and unde rlying electronic sounds. Yet it’s Iggy`s beautiful singing and his voice that lends the music its amazing fusion of sweetness and melancholia – just like the taste of dark chocolate.
With his songs, LIONS HEAD manages to raise the level of desire to a maximum, making you want to jump into the waves while singing along to the great tunes. Well roared – or in this case ‘well sung!’ – LIONS HEAD!
